Sunshineinmypocket produces career-best effort to upset in Pop-up Final

Sunshineinmypocket (Dali) held on for a narrow harness racing victory in the Pop-up Series final in lifetime-best time and a big upset on Thursday (Jun. 22) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Tyler Jones commanded a move to the front after taking a brief tuck**, and Sunshineinmypocket took over coming down the backside. The mare led into the stretch with a two-length lead over pocket-sitter Darkrshadeofpale N (Bob McClure), and held off that rival’s late rush to secure the victory in 1:51. The latter was short by a head. The Ideal Huntress (Louis-Philippe Roy) flew home for third. The winner returned $59.90.

It was Sunshineinmypocket’s first sub-1:52 mile. She is 23-for-134 lifetime and has earned $177,859. Brett Lester trains the seven-year-old for Jean-Francois Reid of Anjou and Jean-Francois Gauthier of Jonquiere.
