2022 Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Final runner-up The Golden Jet (Shadow Play) crushed Flamboro Downs harness racing rivals to begin his three-year-old campaign on Thursday (Apr. 27).
The colt was on top for Anthony Haughan throughout. He quickly claimed the front from post two, banged out :28.3 and :58 first-half splits, and began to kick away in the third panel. He was four lengths up at three-quarters in 1:27.1 and turned it into a romp with a final-quarter blast that put him 11-and-three-quarter-lengths up at the finish in 1:56.2. Play The Rush (Ryan Desroche) was best of the rest over Four Foot Gimme (Bradley Harris).
THE GOLDEN JET REPLAY
The Golden jet was one-for-nine at two but was second seven times, including place finishes in three Grassroots legs, the semi-final, and the final. The Meg Crone-trained colt is now two-for-10 with $61,812 in earnings for owner/breeder Claude Gendreau Stable of Deerfield. He also earned a new career mark with the win.
Flamboro Downs continues racing on Saturday, Apr. 29 at 6:35 p.m. EDT.
