Huntress (Huntsville) maintained her perfect harness racing record on Canadian soil with a lifetime-best victory in the Woodbine Mohawk Park Fillies and Mares Preferred-2 on Friday (Oct. 27).
The four-year-old went to the front for Sylvian Filion, who was seeking his fifth win of the night. She was soon joined by reigning Older Pacing Mare of the Year So Much More (Scott Young), who pulled out to challenge on the first turn approaching the quarter in :27.2. Huntress kept her at bay through a fierce middle half that created fractions of :54.2 and 1:22.1, and they were separated by a length-and-a-half turning for home.
So Much More backed down begrudgingly after her grueling trip, letting Huntress shake loose to a comfortable lead in mid-stretch. Huntress, facing no more threats, rolled home to a three-length victory in 1:51.1.
Mystifying (Doug McNair) passed rivals late for second with Gias Surreal (Tyler Moore) with her in third.
HUNTRESS REPLAY
Huntress is perfect in three starts since moving to Ontario from New York this month. Richard Moreau now trains the mare for Let It Ride Stables of Boca Raton and W. J. Donovan of Delray Beach. Huntress has earned $208,222 and racked up 29 wins in 48 lifetime appearances.
Filionās feature race victory was preceded by his wins with Nothingbutadreamer (Muscle Mass, 1:55.4), Saulsbrook Boomer (Betterthancheddar, 1:54.3), Angeliki (Muscle Up The Goal, 1:57), and Watch Her Dewitt (Hes Watching, 1:54.3). The score with Watch Her Dewitt was a last-to-first effort that caused a 60-1 upset.
WATCH HER DEWITT REPLAY
Woodbine Mohawk Park will conclude its race week on Saturday, Oct. 28. The 11 race card, starting at 7:10 p.m. EDT, will feature a $36,000 Preferred Pace.
