Two-time Breeders Crown champion Amigo Volo (Father Patrick) prevailed in a three-horse harness racing photo finish to take the $36,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Oct. 21).
Quebec Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) fired to the lead in the first panel, reaching the quarter in :27 with Amigo Volo and James MacDonald sitting third. Amigo Volo came off the pylons after the half in :56.2, advancing first-over into the final turn.
Amigo Volo pulled to within a length-and-a-half at three-quarters in 1:24.3 and grinded away at Quebec Hanover down the stretch. Safe Conduct (Chris Christoforou) slid out and joined them in the final 1/16th of a mile, making it a three-across drive to the line. Amigo Volo pushed his head in front under the wire and claimed the nightly feature in 1:51.3.
Quebec Hanover held second narrowly over Safe Conduct.
AMIGO VOLO REPLAY
Amigo Voloās win was the 40th in his storied career. The gelding has won two Breeders Crowns, the Kentucky Futurity, and the Matron twice among other Grand Circuit stakes. He has earned $2,614,252 for owners Pinske Stables of Plato and David Miller of Lake Mary. Meg Crone trains the seven-year-old.
Also on the card, star East Coast filly Oceanview Rumours (Green Manalishi S) won her seventh straight race as she made her Ontario debut in the Harvest Series first division. The filly, who shipped in earlier this month, came second-over on the final turn, rolled past her rivals, and held off Stormont Beautiful (Bob McClure) to win by a half-length in 1:55.1.
OCEANVIEW RUMOURS REPLAY
Oceanview Rumours won five stakes races in a row on P.E.I. before her move to Ontario. She has earned $42,647 and is seven-for-eight lifetime for owners William Roloson, Scott Roloson, and Joey Aylward. Mondayās victory came with a new lifetime mark.
The other Harvest Series winners were Windsun Charlotte (Betterthancheddar, Phil Hudon, 1:54.4), Debra (Muscle Mass, Bob McClure, 1:56.4), and Promising Moment (Control The Moment, Tyler Borth, 1:53.2).
MacDonald won four of 11 races on the evening.
Racing will resume at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:10 p.m. EDT. The card will feature three Harvest Series divisions for two-year-old colts and geldings.
