Travis Henry was the only harness racing driver who found the winner’s circle three different times Thursday (Mar. 7) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
His first win came in the first race with the Lexus Angel (Archangel). The three-year-old filly grabbed the lead at the word “go”. She opened with a 28.3 opening quarter and led by over two lengths. She trotted a lighter second panel and went 30.1. Looks Like Magic (St. Pierre Denis) tried closing the gap but could never catch the favourite. Lexus Angel finished with a 28.3 last quarter and posted a 1:57 mile time.
LEXUS ANGEL REPLAY.
This was the first career win for Lexus Angel in only her second career start. Shannon Henry trains the three-year-old filly.
Henry’s next win came with Gimme A Corona (Control The Moment) in the third race of the card. The Turning Point (James Macdonald) jumped to set the early pace. She opened with a 27.2 opening quarter. Littlebearcat (Doug McNair) sat in the pocket while Gimme A Corona had to settle for fourth. The Turning Point was still leading at the half-mile mark and the clock read 57.4. Gimme A Corona made her move as the field of seven hit the stretch. She found space two-wide and needed a 26.3 closing quarter to win by a nose.
The Turning Point battled hard but just finished second while Littlebearcat held onto third.
GIMME A CORONA REPLAY
Laverne Turnbull owns the four-year-old mare and Meg Crone trains.
Henry’s third win came in the sixth when Captain Wania (Captain Wania) pulled off the 14-1 upset. The three-year-old trotter found space in the pocket behind the favourite, Enchanted Angel (Mark Etsell). Enchanted Angel led until the stretch and posted fractions of 27.4, 59.2 and 1:26.4. It wasn’t until the deep stretch drive that Captain Wania sailed on by and only by about a length. He trotted the last quarter in 27.4 and posted a 1:57.1 mile time.
CAPTAIN WANIA REPLAY
Captain Wania took six starts to get his first career win. Shannon Henry earned her second win on the night.
Del Diggity (So Surreal) also won her sixth win in a row with a wire-to-wire victory. She paced the mile in 1:56 and Doug McNair was in the sulky.
DEL DIGGITY REPLAY
Racing resumes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday (Mar. 8) at 7:10 p.m. EST.
