Scene A Magician (Daylon Magician) vaulted off a pocket journey to nip harness racing pacesetter Power And Grace and capture the Preferred Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday (Apr. 25).
Power And Grace (Brett MacDonald) went forward to the front after a brief encounter with Scene A Magician on the first turn. They maintained those positions through panels of :28.4, :59.4, and 1:28.3.
With Reign Of Honor (Denis St. Pierre) approaching the scene first-over, Garrett Rooney fit Scene A Magician through a tight window to escape to the outside. Power And Grace took a bigger advantage as they rounded into the stretch, but a determined Scene A Magician chased her down and got his head in front for the victory in 1:57.4.
Reign Of Honor finished third.
SCENE A MAGICIAN REPLAY
Scene A Magicianās win was his 31st lifetime in 139 lifetime starts. The nine-year-old has earned $371,751. Jennifer Pinkerton of Mount Brydges owns and trains the gelding.
Also on the card, Chris Matthews drove his first winner since 2020 with Lady Get Lucky (Hes Watching) in the fourth race. He sent the filly three-wide down the backstretch and kept her going to win by a length in 1:59.3 for a maiden-breaking victory.
LADY GET LUCKY / CHRIS MATTHEWS REPLAY
Matthews also trains Lady Get Lucky, who made five prior starts at Woodbine Mohawk Park. His last driving win was with Kodiak Seelster at Flamboro Downs on Sep. 15, 2020. He was 0-for-19 in the past two years.
The Raceway at the Western Fair District continues racing on Wednesday, Apr. 26 at 5:50 p.m. EDT.
