CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Fronting the field for the duration of the mile, Tobins Brownie (Stonebridge Terror) garnered the harness racing glory in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Gold final, presented by JD Marine and Diving Inc., for aged pacing mares Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $13,000 final saw Tobins Brownie leave from post 1 and protect the cones through splits of 27.4, 57, 1:26 and 1:54.1 for trainer-driver David Dowling and owners Sandra Weeks, Brittany Dowling and Errol Burgoyne. The six-year-old Stonebridge Terror mare prevailed over Rosetown Mary (Driven by Corey MacPherson) and Redlandbethanyjean (Brodie MacPhee).
The $9,750 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series Grassroots final for aged pacing mare had Woodmere Heather M (Dowling) rally up to win in 1:56.2 over Redland Misspretty (Marc Campbell) and pacesetter Saulsbrook Abbey (Jason Hughes). Jennifer Doyle trains the winning daughter of Malicious for owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. Write The Rules (Hughes) was another Doyle winner in 1:57.4 in race 5 for the training double.
Dowling also had two other training and driving scores from his own barn with Mia (1:59.1) in race 1 and Elm Grove Redwine (1:57.4) in race 8 for the training triple and driving quadruple.
Oceanview Rumours (Green Manalishi S) won her fourth straight in a $16,175 Brian Andrew Memorial division for two-year-old trot fillies with a 2:01.3 victory in line to Adam Merner over Mamas Pride (MacPherson) and Majian Mystery (Jim Ripley). Melissa Rennie trains the daughter of Green Manalishi S for owners Bill Roloson, Scott Roloson and Joey Aylward.
Rennie celebrated a training double in race 11 as Shake N Blake (Hughes) won in 1:55.2.
Driver Marc Campbell extended his lead in the driving standings as he clicked with trainer Landon Campbell for three wins on the night.
Bless Me Father was the first win for the father-son duo in the $16,175 Brian Andrew Memorial for two-year-old trot colts stopping the clock in 2:01.2 for owner Donna Van Meer over Dusty Lane Gus (Merner) and Fire The Rocket (Hughes).
Chasin Dreams supplied another Campbell family win in the race 10 top trot class by three-open lengths in 1:58 then Pasta Momma won race 13 in 1:54.2 in a conditioned event for pacing mares.
