Harness racing at Century Downs will be heating up as a pair of stake finals are going for $30,000 set to go on Saturday (May 6) afternoon.
Race 8 Bev Sears Memorial Four-Year-Old Mares Final
Grey Sea (Custard The Dragon) has been at the top of her game since she started racing last year. In eleven lifetime starts, she has never finished worse than second place. She has visited the winnerās circle on eight occasions and has a lifetime mark of 1:55.1. This will be Grey Seaās second start at Century Downs, but Nathan Sobey should have her in top condition post-time. She won her elimination pace in 1:56.2 and will have to fight off the other eight mares to win on Saturday/
The other elimination winner was Cozey Up (Mystery Chase). She won slightly faster in 1:55.0 and did so with Brandon Campbell on the bike. The duo will team up again, but this time will come from post position eight. She has had some difficulties with the outside post positions, but you must always figure out what to expect in a stakes race. Cozey Up has only won twice this year, but she could see her way to the top if allowed to find space.
Outlaw What If CC (Mystery Chase) is another horse to watch heading into the finals. She draws the inside post position, and her driver, Logan Gillis, will look to use that to his advantage. In the elimination pace, Outlaw What If CC and Gillis took the lead early and had it until near the end when Cozey Up passed them. Outlaw What If CC already has three wins in 2023 but will be looking for her first at Century Downs.
Race 10 Ed Tracey Memorial Four-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Final
When they have the inside post, betting against Kill A Dragon (Custard The Dragon) and Brandon Campbell will be hard. The duo has yet to finish worse than second place this year. Kill A Dragon won four times in 2023 and earned a new lifetime mark of 1:53.4 in the elimination dash.
Outlawchippendale (Santanna Blue Chip) won the other elimination in 1:54.2. Campbell chose to drive Kill A Dragon over Outlawchippendale, so now the reins are handed over to David Kelly. Last weekās elimination was his first win of 2023 and eighth all-time.
Blast Of Sunshine (Sunshine Beach) will be looking for its own success come post-time. In six starts this year, he has not finished worse than third. Blast Of Sunshine had a four-race win streak heading into the elimination last week, where he finished third. He will look for a bounce back and have Phillip Giesbrecht in the bike.
The first twelve dashes at Century Downs will start at 1:15 p.m. MDT on Saturday. There will also be live racing tonight at 5:15 p.m. MDT.
