CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The winningest harness racing horse in Canada in 2021 will look to put some new notches in the win column starting Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has a nine-dash presentation planned for a 6:30 P.M. start time with the $3,200 featured Fillies and Mares Preferred pace slated for race 8 of the evening. Dreamfair Zenfire (Sunfire Blue Chip) is the favourite in the event from post 4 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. The mare led the nation for wins in 2021 with 17 victories on the 27-race campaign. Her 2022 debut was a close second place finish last week in this class to this week’s post 5 starter Ladylike (To be driven by Gilles Barrieau). Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) will loom a large danger from post 3 along with fellow starters Premier Bettina (Jason Hughes) with rail control and Filly Forty Seven (Mark Bradley) from post 2.
DREAMFAIR ZENFIRE MAY 19 REPLAY
Peter MacPhee places his faith in the morning line favourite to win in the Post Time Picks.
“Dreamfair Zenfire came off the bench last week and raced terrific just getting nipped by the slimmest of margins. Now she moves to the middle and Campbell will have her in play early so it could be picture time.”
The first trot race of the season is scheduled for race 5 of the night with Freddie the top choice for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. The $2,600 trot class also contains top entries Glider Man (Hughes) from post 3 and Go With Her (Brodie MacPhee) with the outside post 6.
Rookie reinsman Damian MacLellan will make his pari-mutuel debut in race 7 of the evening aboard Elm Grove Mistress from the Jennifer Doyle barn. The daughter of Articulator is installed at 3-1 morning line odds in the $2,600 event with the 19-year-old Inverness, N.S., native facing the gate for the first time in his professional driving career. Rock The Baby is the favourite in the event with post 3 for driver Ken Murphy, trainer Earl Watts and owner Windemere Farms of Springvale.
