SUMMERSIDE, PE – The winners of the last two preferred paces at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway will butt heads in Friday evening’s top event at the Prince County oval.
The Summerside Raceway will host 11-dashes on Friday evening at a 6 P.M. start time with the top pace lining up in race 10 for a $3,000 purse. is the morning line favourite from post 3 after a sixth place finish his last start in the Cecil Ladner Memorial at Red Shores Charlottetown. Corey MacPherson drives the Ron Gass trainee for owners William Andrew of Alberta and Kickin Horse Stable of York.
Soccer Hanover was the king in this class last week and will leave from post 5 on Friday with Ken Murphy picking up the catch drive behind the Leith Waite trainee. Other entries in the field are Best To Hurst (To be driven by Taylor Doyle), Pictonian Storm (Marc Campbell) and Panimal Kingdom (David Dowling).
The Backstretch Beat in Friday’s program places Screen Test on top. “Screen Test is one of the finest pacers on the East Coast and drops out of Invitational company to set his eye on Summerside. He is sure to be one tough customer to knock off.”
Drivers Jason Hughes and Marc Campbell go into Friday’s card in a tie for first place for the dash title with nine wins each with Corey MacPherson and David Dowling tied for third at seven wins.
The trainer’s standing has Ron Gass in control at five wins ahead of a two-way tie for second between Nick Oakes and Jeff Wallace at four wins each.
The Red Shores Tailgate Party pace hits the track in race 6 for a $2,100 purse with Gascoigne Sundae the favourite riding a two-race win streak into the event. Campbell is in the bike for trainer Wade Sorrie and owner Murray MacDonald of Belfast. The three-year-old son of Hilarious Halo has been superb so far in 2021 with five starts on the year and all of them in the top three including a trio of victories. His top competitors on Friday will include Mantario (Hughes) and Power Of A Cruiser (Walter Cheverie).
