Amigo Volo (Father Patrick) captured his fifth consecutive $36,000 Preferred Trot at the top overnight harness racing level of Canada with a dominant victory at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Apr. 22).
The gelding commanded the race throughout, setting panels of :26.3, :55.2, and 1:24.1 up front. His foes began to mobilize off the pylons on the final turn, but when Tyler Borth declared go-time, Amigo Volo kicked clear. The gelding soared home to a four-length romp in 1:51.3. Southwind Coors (Chris Christoforou) was best of the rest, getting up late over Looks Like Moni (James MacDonald).
AMIGO VOLO REPLAY
Amigo Volo’s five-race winning streak accounts of all of his seasonal tally. The Meg Crone-trained gelding, a two-time Breeders Crown champion, is now 37-for-91 lifetime and has earned $2,471,426 for owners Pinske Stables of Plato and Dave Miller of Lake Mary. The seven-year-old has not missed a cheque since the 2022 TVG Open and has hit the board in 23 of his 27 starts in the last two years.
Royal Regatta (Mcardle) also extended his win streak on the card. The gelding, in line to James MacDonald, soared from third in the stretch to win his eighth straight race in 1:53.2. He is unbeaten since mid-February in a success spell that saw him claimed five starts in a row. Clifford McGuire trains the nine-year-old for Nancy McGuire of Belle River.
ROYAL REGATTA REPLAY
Winning Alliance (Chapter Seven) remained perfect on the season with a fourth straight score. Todd Ratchford piloted the filly to the lifetime-best 1:55.2 victory for trainer Matt Bax and owners Bax Stable and Glengate Farms. The three-year-old’s win was her fifth lifetime in seven starts and boosted her earnings to $50,300.
