Redlandbethanyjean (Artspeak) blew away her two-year-old pacing filly harness racing rivals in a track record-breaking performance as she won the second Phil Pinkney Memorial division at Truro Raceway on Friday (Sep. 16).
She started at the pylons and shrugged off neighbour Marina Del Rey (Marc Campbell) to take control in a :27.4 first quarter. Brodie MacPhee gave Redlandbethanyjean :56.4 and 1:26 middle panels, and the filly ran up the score as she cruised to victory in 1:54.4.
She was six-and-a-quarter lengths clear of Marina Del Rey in the end. Woodmere Jade (Myles Heffernan Sr.) finished third.
The mile time was four-fifths of a second better than the record for rookie filly pacers set by Jj Scarlett in 2021.
REDLANDBETHANYJEAN REPLAY
It was the second career win in six starts for Redlandbethanyjean, who broke her maiden on Sep. 5 at Summerside. Tom Weatherbie trains the filly for Redland Farms of Bible Hill.
Saulsbrook Mabel (Malicious) captured the other Phil Pinkney Memorial division in similarly dominant style but four-and-one-fifth seconds slower. She led all the way for Mark Bradley and coasted down the stretch to score in 1:59.
She was five-and-three-quarter lengths clear of Itsuptoyou (Gilles Barrieau). Cant Be Touched (Heffernan) held third in a photo with Entitled Express (Heffernan), who was closing at the pylons.
SAULSBROOK MABEL REPLAY
Saulsbrook Mabel, trained by Joseph Baxter, is perfect through two starts. She debuted successfully in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes on Sep. 10. Baxter joins co-breeder Saulsbrook Stables as a co-owner of the filly.
Racing at Truro Raceway will resume on Friday, Sep. 23.
