The Johnny Conroy Memorial produced a record-breaking harness racing performance at Truro Raceway on Friday (Sep. 9) as Twin B Tuffenuff (Rock N Roll Heaven) claimed the fastest mile in the track’s history.
American Risk (Todd Trites) dashed forward from post six to claim an early lead as Twin B Tuffenuff (Gilles Barrieau) fought to keep second position. The latter split off the pylons as they approached the quarter in :27 and circled to the front.
Twin B Tuffenuff sustained the tempo to the half in :54.4 and went to war with the first-over No Plan Intended (David Dowling) to three-quarters in 1:23. The leader inched forward on the final turn and prevailed by a length in 1:50.4.
No Plan Intended finished second, nine lengths clear of American Risk in third.
The mile time lowered the Truro all-age record by four-fifths of a second. The previous holder, Time To Dance, was fourth in the race.
