Alberta’s top harness two-year-olds contested the eliminations of the Century Casinos Pace and ASHA Filly Pace on Saturday (Aug. 17) at Century Downs.
Outlawminutbyminut (Smart Shark, Logan Gillis) broke his maiden as he upset at 39-1 in the first Century Casinos Pace elimination. The gelding came off the cover of Crime Junkie (Phil Giesbrecht) and vaulted past favourite Worldsgreatestsin (Brandon Campbell) before drawing off by four lengths in a 1:58 victory. Worldsgreatestsin held second in a three-horse photo, followed by Custers Stand (Mike Hennessy) and Crime Junkie. Disco Dancer (Dave Kelly) was fifth.
OUTLAWMINUTBYMINUT REPLAY
Outlawminutbyminut is trained by Gillis, who co-owns the colt with Todd Teolis of St. Albert. The two-year-old was off the board in his first two starts in stakes events before Saturday’s win.
Momas Work Of Art (Outrageous Art) jogged in the second split. The colt took a four-length lead to three-quarters for Serge Masse and stretched it out to nine-and-a-quarter as he came home a 1:56.1 winner.
Discontinued (Campbell) held on for place with Get To The Choppa (Kelly Horedt) closing late. Rocky Mtn Wine (Jean Francois Gagne) finished fourth with Hf Whoyou (Robert Scrannage) the last cheque-getter.
MOMAS WORK OF ART REPLAY
Momas Work Of Art is now two-for-three after taking his first lifetime win in the Alberta Sires Stakes Rising Star two weeks ago. Shelly Arsenault trains the colt, who has now earned $32,950, and shares ownership with Don M. Jr. Stables of Sherwood Park and Jackson Wittup of Calgary.
Custard Dolce (Custard The Dragon) prevailed in the first elimination of the ASHA Filly Pace. Jamie Gray activated her from fourth approaching the half, and she marched to the lead before soaring clear by three-and-a-quarter lengths to score in 1:56.
Blowing In The Wind (Hordt) chased her home and finished second, the only horse within 10 lengths. Utherockinmyroll (Nathan Sobey) and Ima Shipwreck (Giesbrecht) were third and fourth, respectively. Pan For Gold (Hennessy) took fifth.
CUSTARD DOLCE REPLAY

Custard Dolce has won three straight stakes races with a maiden-breaking victory in the Emerald Filly Pace and a win last out in the Alberta Sires Stakes Starlet. Gray has trained the filly to $28,987. Custard Dolce is owned by Gray, Wittup, Max Gibb of Millarville, and Derek Wilson of Heritage Point.
Mademechangemymind (Winds Of Change) made it back-to-back wins after falling in her debut as she defeated the second group. Sobey guided her to the front-end victory, with the filly creating a large lead around the final turn and gliding home three-and-three-quarter lengths the best in 1:56.2.
Ahoof Ahead (Giesbrecht) held off Tornado Rain (Gray) for place. Hot Shot Shark (Gillis) finished fourth over Captains Hideaway (Kelly).
MADEMECHANGEMYMIND REPLAY
Mademechangemymind dominated in the Alberta Sires Stakes Starlet last time, her first start since she fell in her debut. Sobey trains and owns the rookie filly, who has now earned $16,133.
Century Downs also hosted a Women of Racing celebration on the day. The event was headlined by a women drivers’ race, which was won by Connie Kolthammer and Outlaw Gunsablazin.
Racing resumes at Century Downs on Friday, Aug. 23, beginning its penultimate race week of the season.
