Two-Year-Olds ready for Breeders Stakes showdown

Horse Racing New Brunswick will host the lucrative New Brunswick Breeders stakes at Connell Park Raceway in Woodstock, N.B on Saturday as part of the seven dash race card on Saturday at 1:00 P.M.

There are two harness racing divisions of the stake for two-year old pacers with a filly division and a colts and geldings with both carrying a purse of $15,000.

In the filly division, the morning line favorite is Going For Blood, a daughter of first crop sire Blood Money for trainer and driver Kenny Arsenault. She’s earned over $ 37,000 in her freshman campaign.

Lady Spencer, a daughter of Lazarus N will be looking to upset the favourite for local owner and trainer Catherine Davies and driven by Sam Hodgin. She’s lightly raced but has a win in 2:04.3.

In the colt division, it’s a much more wide open division with Fire And Blood and Tiziano the two favorites going in to the $ 15,000 stake.

Fire And Blood is also from first crop sire Blood Money and is New Brunswick owned by Dr. Mitch Downey of Saint John, N.B. He will be driven by Mike Downey and he’s earned over $ 25,000 in nine starts.

Tiziano, another son of Blood Money also has earned over $ 25,000 and will have Mary Clare MacDonald in the driver’s seat for his connections.

Kenny Arsenault will catch-drive Kapueno from post five and the son of Betterthancheddar has won four of his eight races and earned over $ 18,000 in 2025.

There’s also a $ 2000 overnight top class that includes Golf Cup and Saucer Consolation winner Nuttin But Finesse and Mike Downey from post four. His biggest threat is the consistent Whats Inthe Esky A and Colin Decourcey.

Race one of seven on the afternoon gets underway at 1:00 P.M. As always, free parking and free admission to the live racing at Connell Park Raceway for racing fans.
