Both Prohibition Legal and Niki Hill continued their undefeated careers, winning their respective $35,000 elimination divisions of the She’s A Great Lady for two-year-old pacing fillies Saturday at Mohawk Park.
Prohibition Legal powered herself to the lead by the half mile for driver James MacDonald and breezed to her sixth straight victory eliminations.
Joyride Hanover (Tim Tetrick) was first on the lead with I Love OnGait (Trevor Henry) leaving and taking the two-hole tuck to the opening quarter mile in :26.3.
Then Queen Of Success (Andy McCarthy) came first-over, giving live cover to Prohibition Legal going to the half mile. Queen Of Success cleared to the front in :55.4, but that lead was short lived as Prohibition Legal and MacDonald brushed right to the lead.
Prohibition Legal led the field past the three-quarters in 1:25.1 as American Ticket (Sylvain Filion) trying coming first-over to no avail. Then at the top of the stretch Prohibition Legal started to put separation on the field with only Joyride Hanover coming on late.
Prohibition Legal stayed unbeaten by a half length in 1:52 with Joyride Hanover second, Queen Of Success third followed by Treacherous Kiss fourth and I Love OnGait fifth.
The top five official finishers from each division will return next Saturday for the $500,500 Shes A Great Lady Final at Mohawk Park.
PROHIBITION LEGAL REPLAY
For Prohibition Legal, a two-year-old daughter of Big Jim, she paid $4.50 to win as the wagering favorite. She is trained by Nick Gallucci for owner-breeder Millar Farms of Stouffville, ON.
Her time of 1:52, tied her lifetime mark.
“She’s just a beautiful horse,” MacDonald said. “She moved to the front and you think she is just gone and then she comes back to you. It was a pretty good half, fifty-five and change, and she was just relaxed. She will do whatever you want. Then at the top of the stretch she just opened up. She will always wait on them and then I asked her at the wire and she still had more in the tank.”
Niki Hill and driver Dexter Dunn made it four for four with a two-length triumph record performance in the second She’s A Great Lady elimination division.
Balance and driver Scott Zeron were first on the lead as Big Bettor Hanover (Bob McClure) left hard and made a break. With Balance on the lead, Boudoir Hanover (Todd McCarthy) grabbed the two-hole trip to the first quarter in :28.
McCarthy then took Boudoir Hanover to the lead with Dunn moving first-up with Niki Hill and they shot to the front at the half mile in :56.3.
From there Niki Hill was in full command, passing the three-quarters in 1:23.4 and then cruising to a one and one-length triumph in 1:50.2. Boudoir Hanover was second with Balance third, Just Divine fourth and Smuggle Tina fifth.
NIKI HILL REPLAY
Sired by Always B Miki, Niki Hill is trained by Chris Ryder for owner Tom Hill of Hamilton, ON. She time was a lifetime mark. She paid just $2.50 to win as the favorite.
“She’s got some awesome power,” explained Dexter Dunn about Niki Hill. “We got away in a good spot, Todd moved to the lead and then we made our move. She was doing it quite easy tonight.”
