Up Helly Aa (Armbro Barrister) extended his winning streak to 13 on Saturday (Aug. 6) at Northside Downs in his third Atlantic Sires Stakes (AtSS) victory of the season.
The three-year-old colt opened up a commanding lead of six-and-a-half lengths at the quarter and rolled unworried to the finish in a 2:02.1 jog. He was five-and-three-quarter lengths clear of Oceanview Cicero (Cory MacPherson). King In The North (Mark Pezzarello) finished third.
Since losing his debut, Up Helly Aa has won 13 of 13 starts, including the Atlantic Sires Stakes Breeders Crown at two. He has earned $58,772. Mary Clare Macdonald trains the colt for Riley Farms of Summerside.
Headline Howie (Armbro Barrister, Mark McGuigan) won the other AtSS division for three-year-old trotters, riding along second until striding to the front down the stretch to score by three lengths in 2:01.3. Getting Allfiredup (Marc Campbell) got up for second over Cadillac (Mary Clare Macdonald).
Headline Howie is also perfect through three appearances in the AtSS this year and is six-for-20 in his career. McGuigan trains the gelding for James Whelan of Vernon Bridge. It waa a new lifetime mark for the gelding.
Marc Campbell guided Fern Hill Gusto (Stonebridge Terror) to victory in the first AtSS division for three-year-old pacing males. Brumby (MacPherson) was second over Elm Grove Qwiggly (Redmond Doucet).
Fern Hill Gusto is now also perfect through the first three AtSS legs – all of which he won in his most recent starts. Marc Campbell trains the three-year-old for Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore. The colt is seven-for-18 lifetime with $53,600 lifetime in earnings.
Stash It Away (Pang Shui) rallied from fifth at three-quarters to take the second sophomore pacing colt division in 1:56.1 by half of a length over Rollwithhottytoddy (Ryan Campbell). Woodmere Denver (Paul Langille) was third by a length.
Stash It Away has won 11 of his 20 career tries, including the AtSS Breeders Crown, and has earned $83,470. Kevin Maclean conditions the gelding for Reginald MacPherson of Stratford.
