Lasting Dream (Cantab Hall) and Tregaron (Propulsion) both landed harness racing upsets in the finals of two-year-old trotting stakes events on Thursday (Aug. 8) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Lasting Dream coming home a winner in the Pure Ivory

Lasting Dream, off her maiden-breaking victory in leg two, dropped more than two seconds to capture the $80,000 Pure Ivory Final at 15-1. Louis-Philippe Roy put the filly on the engine at the halfway point, fended off Clarissa W (Bob McClure) in the final quarter, and outlasted heavy favourite Southwind Milk (James MacDonald) for the 1:54.1 victory. Southwind Milk was short by three-quarters-of-a-length. Clarissa W finished further back in third.

LASTING DREAM REPLAY

The winner is now two-for-four with $54,320 in earnings. The Determination homebred finished third in her first two starts before earning her first win in the Pure Ivory second leg last time. Luc Blais trains the rookie filly.

Tregaron drew off to win by a wide margin to break his maiden for driver Scott Young in the $79,500 Millard Farms Final. The 11-1 shot came off the rail three-wide from fourth on the final turn and closed in on leader Go Ahead Makemyday, who galloped coming down the stretch. Tregaron soared past him and extended his gap to five lengths as he sealed the win in 1:55.2. Southwind Caspian came home second by two lengths over Right Here Hanover (McClure).

TREGARON REPLAY

Tregaron garnered place finishes in his first two outings for trainer and co-owner Robert Young. The gelding has now earned $48,750 for owners Young, Premier and Associates Farm, Glengate Farms, and Frank Chiaravalloti.

James MacDonald drove four winners on the night’s 10-race card.

Racing will continue at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday, Aug. 9 at 7:10 p.m. EDT. The features among the 11-race card are the Whenuwishuponastar and Dream Maker finals, for two-year-old pacing fillies and two-year-old pacers, respectively.
