J Bradley Harris, who was back in his bike on Mar. 16 after a one-race absence, tucked the gelding into third, following leader Derf Hanover (Doug McNair) and Power And Grace (Brett Macdonald) into the first turn.
Derf Hanover was allowed 29.3 and 1:00.3 opening fractions before Harris activated his charge out of third as they turned for the second backstretch trip.
Veyron briefly headed the leader, but Derf Hanover fought back at the rail and set the three-quarter time of 1:29.4. Derf Hanover ceded the lead shortly after, though, and promptly went to the gallop. Veyron then trotted off to a one-and-a-quarter-length victory in 1:58.4. Power And Grace flashed late speed but had to settle for second, and Sizzlen Hot Herbie (Natasha Day) emerged best from a blanket finish for third.
Veyron’s win brought him to 17-for-96 lifetime and carried his earnings total over the $200,000 mark. Paul Cameron trains the son of Muscles Yankee for Tjs Stable of Caledon East. The horse has won four races from his past six starts, all of which were Preferred events of varying levels.
