Veyron cruises at Flamboro

 

Harris stepped on Veyron's accelerator to grab the front just past the quarter, managed tempo well and pulled away from stretch challengers under a mild drive to take Flamboro's first preferred event of the year.

 

Veyron left quickest, but Zack To The Max was intent on an early lead. Travis Cullen drove on with the latter and took the lead in the field's first visit to the backstretch. Harris immediately moved outside with Veyron and re-took the lead with ease. The duo then slowed the pace down for a 59.3 first half and continued unchallenged to the three-quarters in 1:28.2 as Herbs Journey stalled first-over.

 

As Veyron turned for home, the only worry was Zack to the Max from the pocket, but he had little after an enervating first quarter. Harris only needed to offer little encouragement to put away that foe as he and his drive won under wraps. Sizzlin Hot Herbie passed a tired Zack to the Max, who finished third, and survived a pylon violation inquiry to finish second.

 

 

Veyron and Harris both collected their first wins of the year with that feature race score. The former has now won 15 races from 92 lifetime starts and earned more than $185,000. Paul Cameron trains the eight-year-old gelding by Muscles Yankee for Tjs Stable, which acquired the horse in Sep. 2019.

 

The Feb. 21 card was Flamboro Downs' first of the year as the Dundas, Ontario track resumes racing after a government-mandated Covid-19 shutdown. Flamboro will stop racing again for several days as it upgrades its lighting to LED, according to Standardbred Canada. There are no further confirmed race dates as of Feb. 21.
