Warrawee Vital blew out his Preferred rivals on Saturday at Woodbine Mohawk Park and became Canada’s fastest harness racing horse of the season as he stopped the clock in 1:47.3.
The four-year-old son of Captaintreacherous has won five of 15 starts this year and leads Allywag Hanover by three fifths of a second as the nation’s quickest pacer in 2021.
He debuted at Woodbine Mohawk Park as a two-year-old under trainer Robert Don Fellows, winning two of three conditioned tries. At three, Warrawee Vital won the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes, Simcoe, and tied his sire’s career best time of 1:47.1 in victory in the Bluegrass.
BLUEGRASS VICTORY REPLAY
He began his four-year-old season at the Meadowlands for conditioner Ronald Coyne with three second-place finishes in the Graduate Series, twice in sub-1:48 times, and conditioned win. He then finished third in the Roll With Joe but disappointed in the Graduate Final and William Haughton Memorial before shipping back to Canada at the end of July.
The stallion finished third in his return to Woodbine Mohawk Park and the Fellows barn on Jul. 31 but quickly won a top conditioned event and doubled with a Preferred victory. After finishing fourth in a $100,000 Invitational at Georgian Downs, the Trevor Henry-driven horse captured the $40,000 Open Handicap on North America Cup night.
OPEN VICTORY REPLAY
He finished third in the $100,000 Mohawk Gold Cup in the following week before producing his 1:47.3 victory in the $34,000 Preferred on Saturday.
1:47.3 PREFERRED VICTORY REPLAY
The fastest miles in Canada for all aged pacing divisions now belong to offspring of sire Captaintreacherous. Warrawee Vital joined gelding Allywag Hanover (1:48.1) and mare Lyons Sentinel (1:49) in topping their respective charts.
Earlier in the season, Fellows said in a COSA TV feature that “his best attribute is that he’s fast.” In the same interview, taken after the horse’s May 22 overnight win, Fellows said “he’s going to have to step up.” Four months after making that statement, the stallion is the fastest horse in Canada.
Warrawee Vital, who is owned by Blair Corbeil, N Yolanda Fellows, and M&S Racing Stable Inc. is breeding and racing this season. After bursting onto the Grand Circuit scene late in 2020 and becoming the fastest son of Captaintreacherous, the latter two decided to stand him privately for 2021.
The group purchased him from the 2018 Lexington Select sale for $32,000. Thirty-one starts later, the stallion has won 13 times and has earned $405,506.
