Horse Racing New Brunswick played host to the first leg of Gary ” Shack ” Memorial harness racing series on Saturday (May 28) at Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John.
After the dust settled, it was a lopsided victory for the Truro Raceway invader, Well Did (Well Said) for driver Paul Langille. He had the lead in his sights early and grabbed the lead just before the quarter and cruised to a seven and a half-length win.
WELL DID REPLAY
Owned by the aptly named Well Did Owners Club of Truro, it was the pacers second win of the season. Time of the mile was 2:01, the fastest on the five-dash program on Saturday. Bugger Max (Mark Haig) and Joes Beauty (Steve Mason) completed the top trio.
J J Breanne (Image Of Dawn), the front running specialist for Davidson, played a game of catch me if you can in the second race and it paid off with a victory in 2:02 after a half of :58.2. She was tiring in the lane but held on for a seven-length win. Thatās her first win of the 2022 campaign.
Father Ofthe Year (Royal Mattjesty), who had a couple years off and is back at the races took the afternoonās top overnight class. Mike Downey drove the pacer to a gate to wire effort for his son Dr. Mitchell Downey. Montrose Hope was second with Frontier Cruise tasting his first loss in the Maritimes.
Also on the afternoon card, Pickpocketprincess (Varadero Hanover) executed a first-up trip and was game as she went on to an impressive win for owner, driver and breeder Wayne Hubbard of Saint John. Time of the mile was 2:04 as she bested Fall Bliss and Saulsbrook Ocean.
Racing returns next Saturday with a 1:00 P.M start and will feature the final of the Gary Smith MemorialĀ series.
