The Raceway at the Western Fair District resumed harness racing action on Monday (Oct. 2) with the first card of its fall/winter meet.
No Partnersās (Heston Blue Chip) four-and-three-quarter-length romp was the nightās standout performance. The gelding wired the field for Dan Clements and lowered his lifetime mark to 1:56.1. It gave the sophomore back-to-back wins of four lengths or more after he dominated at Sarnia on Sep. 16. Jason Libby trains No Partners for Douglas Dunbar. The gelding has now earned $20,796 and won four of 17 lifetime starts.
NO PARTNERS REPLAY
Six-year-old pacer Journalistic (Sportswriter) circled the field in the ninth. He never saw a pylon, following cover past rivals, and charged three-wide down the backside to take the lead turning for home. Pacesetter Malvolio (Travis Henry) battled back down the stretch, but Journalistic held on by a head to score in 1:59.1. Journalistic, trained by Jason Sherman, is now 11-for-112 lifetime with $88,489 in earnings. Sherman co-owns the gelding with Bert and Betty Sherman of Dorchester.
JOURNALISTIC REPLAY
Henry tripled on the card to strike first in the driversā standings. All 10 races were won by a different trainer.
The Raceway will follow a Monday-Tuesday-Friday schedule. Racing continues at the track on Oct. 3 with a 5:50 p.m. EDT first post.
