The harness racing feature race of the evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District Tuesday evening (Nov. 1) was the 10th race when a field of ten trotters went for a purse of $10,000.

Sizzlen Hot Herbie (Here Comes Herbie) won in the time of 1:59 with Natasha Day in the bike. The duo was at 7-1 odds when it was post time and paid $16.90 on a $2 win bet.

Sitting along the rail in fourth place, Sizzlen Hot Herbie and Day were able to advance along the pylons into second place by the top of the stretch and then out trot Wrap And A Hooey to the wire with a last quarter mile in :29.4.

This was the eight-year-old gelding’s fourth win of 2022 and his first win since June 27th at Grand River Raceway. Wrap And A Hooey finished in second place by three-quarters of a length with Jayport Hi Class breathing down both his and Sizzlen Hot Herbie’s necks in third. The trio of horses paid $92.55 based on a $1 trifecta ticket. Natasha Day owns and trains Sizzlen Hot Herbie.

SIZZLEN HOT HERBIE REPLAY

Earlier in the card, driver Tyler Borth found himself in the winner’s circle numerous times and ended up getting a hat trick. He won the first race of the day in the time of 1:57.2 with a three-year-old filly that goes by the name of Arizona (Up The Credit). His next win came in the fourth race with Chappiesboy (Sportswriter). Borth and the five-year-old gelding won in the time of 1:57.1.

Borth’s most impressive win of the evening came only one race later when he won with the 24-1 longshot, Playfull Elegance (Elegant Man). The five-year-old mare upset the field of eight and helped make the winning pick-5 ticket pay over $2,500. Borth is having his best year as a driver in 2022 with 263 wins and just shy of $1.8 million in earnings.

Another highlight on the evening’s card came in the third race when the three-year-old filly, Ethel (Sportswriter) won in her debut race. She finished the mile in 2:00.4 and was able to outlast the rest of the field. She was the morning line favourite to win the race but once betting was officially opened, bettors started leaning a different way. But Ethel with trainer Patrick Barr in the bike was still at 2-1 odds and was the second favourite heading into the race.

The Raceway at Western Fair District will be back in action on Friday at 4:50 PM Eastern.
