Western Summit (Vertical Horizon) took the Fraser Downs Fillies and Mares Open harness racing crown and reached a six-digit earnings total as she led all the way in the Thursday (Sep. 8) top class contest.
The mare emerged from mid-pack to stride forward for the early lead. David Kelly rated her to fractions of :28, :58.4, and 1:28.1 with no outside threat as the first-over In High Cotton (Scott Knight) stalled two lengths short.
Western Summit rounded the turn with the lead and completed the task, holding off pocket-sitter Century Mach (Kelly Hoerdt) to score in a 15-1 upset with a 1:56.1 clocking.
Century Mach closed the gap to three-quarters of a length. Moosette (Brandon Campbell) picked up places late for third.
WESTERN SUMMIT REPLAY
It was Western Summitās 14th career victory in 80 starts. She has now earned $102,292. Jim Marino trains and owns the mare who has won eight times this season, including three opens in the spring Fraser meet.
Fraser Downs racing resumes on Wednesday, Sep. 14 at 7:00 p.m. PDT.
