Maddy N Maggie (Sunshine Beach) has just turned five years old and has moved south of the border to continue her harness racing career.
She is now owned by Irving Bluestein and is trained by Michael Girouard. The pacer made two starts at Cumberland Raceway in December and finished eighth back-to-back times. She recently resurfaced at Monticello Raceway in a qualifying mile. She paced the mile in 2:03.
She was bred by Tara and Garett Isman and was foaled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Tara oversaw training, and George Isman was the man with the reigns. Sept. 18, 2021, as a two-year-old, was the first time she officially hit the track. She only made two starts as a rookie and earned a cheque once. The beginning of her sophomore season could have been better as well. She didnāt win a harness race during her first eight starts. The best result she could muster was a handful of fourth place.
While remaining owned by the Ismans, she moved to southern Ontario to finish her three-year-old year. Michael Kwietniowski took the young filly into his stable, and they found early success together. She won her first career start at Flamboro Downs and her second start in Ontario. She found a nice pocket trip and cruised to a win in 2:01.3.
She didnāt stop there as she won her next three races. Her fastest time during the stretch was 1:59.0. Maddy N Maggie added one more win on New Yearās Eve, which made her grand total of five wins as a three-year-old.
Maddy N Maggie added another seven wins to her career total during her four-year-old year. She also earned over $39,000 in 2024. She now has a career total of $61,638 in prize winnings. Her lifetime mark of 1:56.2 was achieved at Grand River on Jul. 19. Her last win came at Flamboro Downs on Nov. 25, and she paced the mile in 1:58.0 after leading wire-to-wire.
Although it is unclear what Maddy N Maggieās racing future holds after her qualifying mile, it is clear that she has been one of the more notable names to have come from Manitoba in recent years.
