West Coast Beach (Sunshine Beach) did not allow the rain-soaked track to dampen his spirits on Friday (Nov. 1) at Fraser Downs, reaching two harness racing milestones in a Preferred victory.
The gelding, seeking his seventh win of the season, took charge going to the quarter in :27 but was pocketed by odds-on favourite Sunshine Boy (Dave Hudon) in a second-quarter brush. The latter reached the half in :55.4 and maintained a solid tempo to three-quarters in 1:23.4 on the surface rated good.
West Coast Beach took aim for Kelly Hoerdt around the final turn and handily dispatched his foe, streaking clear to a two-and-a-quarter-length score in 1:53.1.
Waitin Ona River (Kevin Anderson) rallied for place. Rum N Raisins (John Abbott) was third.
WEST COAST BEACH REPLAY
West Coast Beast collected his 30th win and surpassed $200,000 in lifetime earnings with the victory. The gelding, trained by Rebecca Kanak, is seven-for-14 this year. Kanak co-owns the seven-year-old with Timothy Gordon of Spruce Grove.
Abbott was the nightās top driver, scooping four of the nine races.
Racing will return to Fraser Downs on Thursday, Nov. 7.
