Wisk Key K returned from a five-week layoff and captured his sixth harness racing victory in eight starts this season on Thursday at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Pascal Berube, taking the sophomore Bettors Delight coltās reins for the first time, provided him with a pocket trip as leader Chantee (Jacques Beaudoin) cut :27.1, :56.2, and 1:25.1 fractions. Wisk Key K appeared primed to blow by his foe coming off the final turn, but Berube had to apply urging in deep stretch to lift his charge to the victory. He crossed the line a head in front of Chantee in 1:54.1.
WISK KEY K REPLAY
The clocking was a new lifetime mark for Wisk Key K, who is now six-for-13 lifetime. He went 0-for-5 in his freshman year but was perfect through the same number of starts at three. Jamie Copley of Kenmore purchase the colt before racing began in March and sent him to trainer Mandy Archer. Wisk Key K romped in his debut under Archer in March but had to wait until June for his next as the Ontario government shut down racing due to COVID-19.
The horse returned and won four more in a row before breaking in two straight starts in July. Archer laid him off for five weeks after that, giving him a winning qualifier on Aug. 29 before his Thursday appearance.
Rideau Carleton Racewayās next card is scheduled for Sunday, Sep. 5.
