Longshots steal limelight at Mohawk Park

Harness racing is a very unpredictable sport and the results on Friday night (Nov. 4) at Woodbine Mohawk Park was clear evidence of that.

A Pop-Up Series going for $15,000 kicked off the late Pick-5 in the sixth race and 26-1 longshot Thersomethinggoinon (Artspeak) earned his first career win. In his previous ten starts, the best he’s ever finished was third place.

The young two-year-old gelding has only earned $5,060 before this race and more than doubled that with the $7,500 he will receive for his effort. Trainer Beau Brown was in the bike for the victory and earned his 19th win this year as a driver.

Serious Mojo with 11-1 odds finished second while La Playa Deo with 7-1 odds finished third. The trifecta paid $2,042 based on a $2 wager for anyone who had these three on their ticket.

THERSOMETHINGGOINON REPLAY

The theme of longshots finding a way to win continued with the 5-1 Tuggingoncredit (Up The Credit) finding his way to the winner circle and earning a new lifetime mark of 1:51.1 in the process. Doug McNair picked up his first win of the night with Tuggingoncredit and ended up having three victories when the night was over.

McNair went on to also win with Mr Contestant (Winning Mister) with 7-1 odds at post time. The seven-year-old trotter just missed out on a new lifetime mark by one-fifth of a second with his 1:54.2 performance. Mr Contestant hit the $300,000 mark in earnings and will make his 150th start next time he goes to post.

McNair had the betting favourite when he won with Night Shadow (Shadow Play) to complete his hat trick. This was McNair’s first time teamed up with the three-year-old gelding and the duo paced their way to a new lifetime mark of 1:52.2. He was able to beat his previous personal best by an entire second.

Anyone lucky enough to have all the longshot winners on their Late Pick-5 ticket won $5,354.13 on just a $0.20 bet.

Woodbine Mohawk Park will be back in action on Saturday and Monday with post time being 7:00 PM Eastern.
