SUMMERSIDE, PE – Woodmere Ideal Art (Articulator) had to work through the mile the hard way but found his nose on top at the wire in the Wednesday evening (Oct. 12) featured harness racing pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Dale Spence drove the Sifroi Melanson trainee to a 1:55.3 win in the $3,300 Preferred 2 pace, braving the mile first-over on pacesetter Screen Test (Driven by Corey MacPherson). Screen Test would win up second with race favourite His Boy Elroy (David Dowling) third. The winning seven-year-old is owned by the Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B.
Horseman Taylor Doyle celebrated three victories on the night in races 1, 2 and 5. The Doyle trained Arrived Late (Million Dollar Cam) won the opening dash in 1:58.3 in line to driver Spence for owner Robin Lajeunesse of Summerside. Race 2 saw Doyle catch drive Source Of Night (Source Of Pride) to victory in 2:01.2 for trainer John McGuirk then Doyle covered both duties in race 5 as he trained and drove the Lajeunesse owned Wickedly Sinful (McWicked) to her third straight win in 2:01.1 for the two-year-old filly to remain undefeated on P.E.I.
Trainer Earl Watts scored a double on the Wednesday night card in Summerside as Starshipsalicia (Pang Shui) upset in 1:59.1 at 27-1 odds in race 6 and Rock The Baby (Rockin Image) was a popular winner in race 3 in 1:56.2, both with Dowling in the bike. The pair of wins puts Dowling in a tie with Red Shores Summerside leading driver Ken Murphy, who failed to win any dashes on the program. MacPherson had two wins on the night and is six wins back at 32 to sit third.
