Justhorseracing.com.au has reported that it has taken 12 months, but police have swooped down in France and the ramifications across European thoroughbred and harness racing are massive.
After a tip-off 12 months ago, French police launched investigations into who was supplying illegal drugs to vets and horse trainers, and exactly which vets and horse trainers were receiving and using them.
Phone taps, late night and early morning surveillance, under-cover officers mixing in with racing folk, all took part and last night in Paris they launched their attacks.
In all, across both codes 23 persons have been arrested, and the supply chain of illegal drugs, which was coming in from Spain and Italy, has been stopped.
Some big names will come from this including recent Cheltenham Festival winning trainers.
In that number of 23, vets were also arrested and found culpable.
More as it all unfolds in the courts.
