In the first heat this 1.9/1 favorite was clocked in 1.14.2kr and reined by trainer Veljko Mazsity for breeder/owner Hico Versenyistallo. This was his second straight 2023 victory in as many starts. Catania R (5g One Too Many-Campala RAL-Toss Out) was second a long neck back for driver Marko Slavic at 8.3/1 odds. Third was 3.1/1 Caska szel (5f Ken Warkentin-Nana-Tony Oaks) for trainer/driver Imre Fazekas.
In the co-featured Nemzeti DIJ (purse 3,000,000Huf, 1960 meters distance handicap) the 2.4/1 favorite Ejjeli Holgy (3f Maximus Lindy-Night Lady-Tony Oaks) scored easily in 1.19.0kr with Imre Fazekas at the lines for Prolongo III and trainer Bernadett Balogh. The filly was bred by Kabala Menes Kft and now has two victories in as many starts in 2023 and she remains unbeaten in three career starts. Second was 2.8/1 odds Eternal Flame (3m Maximus Lindy-Rubin Lady-Wall Street Banker) handled by trainer Andor Angyal.
He was also bred by Kabala Menes Kft, as was third finishing Eastwood (3m Maximus Lindy-Cameron Diaz-Baltic Speed) reined by trainer Tibor Hajnal and off at 9.1/1 odds. This classic event was won in 2022 by Dolomit Boy (Maximus Lindy) for Csaba Lakatos in the race record 1.17.3kr; and in 2021 Csak a szel (Ken Warkentin) was the winner for Imre Fazekas.
The other classic event this day was the Hippdrom Es Lovarda Sprinter Kupa, a grade 1 race for a purse of 2,000,000Huf and raced over 1800 meters autostart. Here the 2/1 favorite Palace Bo (4m Muscle Hill-Jasmina-Abano As) was a gate to wire winner in 1.14.4kr. Bred by Hans-U Bornmann and owned by Prolong III the Imre Fazekas reined and Bernadett Balogh trainer, Palace Bo remains undefeated in three starts in HU this year.
He had won three straight in Germany before moving to HU, the latest being at 1.14.3kr victory at Berlin Mariendorf. Second today was 33.2/1 Cardenas Baba (5f From Above-Ulan Bator Baba-Love You) with trainer Goran Zolnaj driving. Third home was 14.3/1 Unno del Duomo (10m Ganymede-Irma del Duomo-Lemon Dra) handled by Sandor Kolozsi for trainee Goran Zolnaji. Fourth was 3.1/1 second favorite Maugli (7g El Nino-Manisha Vita-Zerberus) who rallied from near the back with Janko Sagaj the trainer/driver.
Last year Digital Races (Super Photo Kosmos) scored in 1.13.9kr. The 2021 winner was 1.14.4kr timed Unno del Duomo (Ganymede). The race record 1.13.6kr was set in 2015 by Romi MMS (Turbo Sund), a mare that also won the 2016 Sprinter Kupa edition.
The Dr. Vecsekloy Memorial second heat also went to 1.5/1 odds Bonaparte Boss timed in 1.15.3kr with Veljko Mazsity the trainer/driver. He rallied for a length plus victory over 3,4/1 pacesetter Csak a szal (5f Ken Warkentin) and trainer/driver Imre Fazekas, Third was 3.7/1 Catania R (5g One Too Many) with Marko Slavic aboard. Ubu Kiraly (10m Vioxx SR) was fourth at 5.6/1 and reined by Lajos Marton. The race placings were determined after this heat. The placings were 1-Bonaparte Boss; 2-Catania R; 3-Csak a szel.
