Borutka (4f Illetmeny-Night Lady-Tony Oaks) returned to form and rallied for victory in the 107th edition of the Magyar Ugeto Derby (purse 10,000,000Huf, 2500 meters autostart) at Kincsem Park.
Off at 12.6/1 the Csaba Lakatos-teamed Tibor Hajnal trainee won her first in three 2021 tries and now has seven career wins in 12 appearances. Race time was 1.17.6kr. The winning sire Illetmeny was an exceptional son of Valley Guardian that Bill Weaver bred in the USA. Bazsiville (4g Calypso Capar) was second for trainer/driver Mitja Slavic and Be Happy (4m Com Muscle) was third for Lajos Marton. The 2.2/1 favorite Bugatti SS and 4.7/1 Berrill Lady were miscue dqās. The latter was driven by Franck Nivard who was in town with FR trainer Fabrice Souloy.
The Derby weekend was special and conducted under sunny skies. The trotting undercard was also special.
The top action began with the Daniel Bisbac Memorial (purse 665,000HUf, 1800 meters autostart) and local stalwart mare Longines (7f Conway Hall-Kentucky Love Song-Valley Victor) scored gate to wire in 1.15.6kr for Gyorgy Horvath and trainer Imre Fazekas. She was off the 1.2/1 favorite and recorded her 22nd career victory in 28 starts. She has four 2021 wins in five appearances.
In the Jozsef Sinka Memorial (purse 1,500,000HUf, 1800 meters autostart) the 5.3/1 Khalid (8g Lets Go-Lisboa-Speedy Soma) scored in 1.15.6kr with Christophe Schwarz subbing for Thorsten Tietz.
Robert Gramuller conditions this winner and it was his third straight triumph. Gideon H. Renka (8g Quick Wood) was second at 63/1 for Antun Horvatski. Third was the 3/2 favorite Unno del Duomo (8m Ganymede) for Goran Zolnaji. Well regarded Maugli was a miscue dq.
In the Pannonia DIJ (purse 1,800,000Huf, 1800 meters autostart) the 1.16.1kr timed winner was 2.3/1 Zseneroz (6f SJs Photo-Hitelezo-Witsends Speedy) with Franck Nivard up for trainer Zoltan Ozvar. It was her third 2021 victory in six outings. Nivard recently achieved his 3500th career victory in France. Zona (6f Offenbach Bigi was a game second for Emil Csordas and Adriani Asti (5f Frulllino Jet) was third for Veljko Mazsity.
Earlier on the card was the Grus Esterhazy/Mklos Moris Memorial (purse 1,710,000Huf, 1800 meters autostart, three year olds) and the 1.18.1kr clocked winner was 2.7/1 Casino Royale (3g Marengo-Naomi-PS Dimo) for Imre Soos II and trainer Zoltan Horvath. He now has three wins in five 2021 starts. Also in the Soos Memorial (purse 600,000Huf, 1900 meters autostart) the 5.8/1 Bizony AM (4g SJs Photo-Nana-Tony Oaks) scored in 1.18.6kr at 5.8/1 for trainer/driver Imre Fazekas. The dam Nana was an exceptional stakes performer during her racing endeavors.
