Filwell wins 90,000€ Prix Djerid monte test

The 1.1/1 odds favorite Filwell (9g Qwerty-Regence-Insert Gede) played give and go with 1.8/1 Homer de Fromentel (7g Vanishing Point-Rose de Fromentel) before inching ahead in the final strides to win the Prix Djerid (monte Gr. III, purse 90,000€, 2700 meters with nine starters ages 6-11) at Paris-Vincennes, France.

Race time was 1.13.0kr as Camille Levesque teamed the Pierre Levesque bred/owned/trained monte specialist. Filwell now has 19 career wins in 68 starts for 548,560€. The second finishing Homer had jockey Christopher Corbineau in the irons for owner/trainer Damien Lecroq. Third and six lengths back was 42/1 Django du Bocage (11g Real de Lou) with jockey P.Y. Verva up for Stephane Meaunier.

In the Prix de Riberac (Gr. III, 15 European starters four-year olds females, 2700 meters, purse 80,000€) the 4.1/1 odds Kalmia Quick (4f Up And Quick-Dolce Vita Quick-Carpe Diem) scored in 1.15.3kr with a steady move early in the lane.

Franck Nivard teamed the J.M. Baudouin trainee to her sixth career victory in 15 starts for earnings of 122,600€. Ecurie Quick Star owns this mare that defeated 2.3/1 odds favorite Kalmia Perrime (4f Django Riff-Unabella Perrine-Diamant Gede) reined by Theo Duvaldestin. This Courant AB mare is trained by Theirry Duvaldestin. Koh Samur (4f Feeling Cash-Valrose-Nahar de Beval) was third at 8.5/1 for trainer/driver Jean Michel Bazire and Ecurie des Charmes.

Sunday ahead is the Gr. I Prix de Cornulier, the prestigious monte test with a purse of 700,000€. There are 33 horses early engaged including a host of horses without significant monte experience. Those 33 are listed below with trainer and life earnings. Of the 33 only nine are males. There are five horses engaged that have primarily been sulky performers of note – Hip Hop Haufor, Zarenne FAS, Mini Viking, Flamme du Goutier, Etonnant, the latter that has been sidelined of late with an ulcer issue.
