Idao de Tillard (Severino) rallied off three wide three back cover earlier and exploded past tiring leaders in the lane to win today’s Prix de France – The Speed Race in record time 1.09.4 over 2100 meters autostart.
18 horses contested this event for a purse of 400,000€ in a race that began in 1956 and has been previously won three times by three horses – Ourasi, Jamin and Eleazar. Clement Duvaldestin expertly teamed Idao, the Cyril Sevestre owned and Thierry Duvaldestin trained winner now of 29 races in 39 starts for earnings of 2,104,430€. Idao was off as the 7/10 odds favorite from post seven and held off 6.1/1 closer Go On Boy (8m Password-Balginette) reined by trainer Romain Derieux for Ecurie Niconn that started from post 18. Ampia Mede SM (8f Ganymede-Polimpia Slide SM) rallied for third at 13/1 odds from post six driven by Franck Nivard for Fabrice Souloy, training for Scuderia SE Fin.
The Speed Race was just that as Joviality jetted forward from post nine and trotted the first 600 meters in a rate of 1.02.5kr and reached the 1000 to go post in 1.06.9kr. Vivid Wise As advanced off cover and surged to the front with the 500 to go mark timed in 1.09.5kr. Vivid (10m Yankee Glide-Temple Blue Chip), racing in an American sulky, held on to mid-stretch when he tried to finish sixth at 8.2/1 odds. Joviality backed through the field and the Chapter Seven mare ended 15th as there were three horse dq’d with miscues. The other top finishers today were Emeraude de Bais (10f Repeat Love) fourth at 37/1; Hokkaido Jiel (7m Brillantissime) fifth at 30/1 and 133/1 Power (8m Googoo Gaagaa) eighth.
Idao proved again that he has finishing speed and endurance as does the rallying Go On Boy. Next is the Prix de Paris – Marathon Race in two weeks that completes the France Triple Crown. The three-time winners are Bellino II, Vourasie and Jardy with the fastest winner being Diable de Vauvert in 2022 at 1.13.3kr over the 4150-meter course. There are six double winners of the Paris-Marathon most recently Belina Josselyn and Up And Quick.
