The fifth Prix d’Amerique harness racing prize qualifier, the Prix de Bourgogneis, is set for Sunday (Dec. 31) at Paris-Vincennes in France.
The 2100-meter autostart Gr. II contest for 120,000€ purse has 18 horses in two tiers led by Hohneck, Ampia Mede SM, Go On Boy and Hail Mary in what appears to be a very competitive speed race. Go On Boy, Hooker Berry (the Prix d’Amerique winner last year) and Gu d’Heripre will race with shoes on.
The first three finishers will earn Prix d’Amerique tickets. Four starters have already earned their entry to the Prix d’Amerique. The Criterium Continental winner Jushua Tree reportedly will take a pass opting for another opportunity during that race weekend.
Idao de Tillard, the Tenor de Baune winner, is a likely favorite in the Prix d’Amerique. He has four Groupe 1 wins. The 21-time Gr. I winner Vivid Wise As has yet to start at Vincennes albeit his son Charmant de Zack is in the Bourgogne starting from post 15 in the second tier.
The Prix de Bourgogne has quite a history with multiple race winners including Bold Eagle, Ready Cash and Ourasi, each three-time winners. Delia du Pommereux owns the fastest winning time 1.09.6kr set last year. She will start from post four in Sunday’s race.
