FLORENCE, Italy – The affable amateur harness racing driver Larry Ferrari needed to work out a trip to win the Italian Centennial Competition on Saturday (Sept. 24), and the racing gods broke through the overcast and rain, opening up a path along the pylons at just the last moment for Larry to come up and grab the win photo.
Ohio horsemen can be proud of their homegrown winner. America took home a prize while the World Championship still eludes our grasp.
As the horses come out for the final of the World Championship, it appears that there is a chance the reigning champ Piet Van Pollaert may refuse to relinquish his crown.
Malta ās C Calleja still has a shot to topple the Champ. The point system being used only credits a win with a one point bonus. That keeps the competition down to the nail biter that this one has become.
The gate rolls and we have us a race off with everyone watching the Malta driver, especially the reigning champ.
Malta has worked out a second over trip and ends up tipping off cover to win the competition, unseating the Champ.
As they say in boxing āyou have to come and take the crown from meā and C Calleja did just that.
ComplimentsĀ to Malta for winning the World Cup and to the USAās Larry Ferrari on helping the Italians celebrate 100 years of amateur racing, winning the special Centennial Competition. That record the USA will hold for a hundred more years.
