They will be thirteen to take their place behind the autostart Sunday in Cagnes-sur-Mer to try to put their name on the list of winners of the 200,000€ Grand Critérium de Vitesse de la Côte d’Azur.
It is the only Group I contested on the Côte d’Azur racecourse and the only one on the mile (1,609m) in France.
Two-time defending champion Vivid Wise As will try to put his name on the list for a third time in an event that the champion Une de Mai won five times between 1969 and 1973. The Italian candidate is in great shape as evidenced by his latest success in the Prix de France Speed Race, in Vincennes on February 13th. He has everything for him except his place at the start (the 8th), the outermost in the front row behind the autostart.
The Italian delegation is important with four trotters of transalpine origin. In addition to Vivid Wise As, Zacon Gio (with the 1), Vitruvio (with the 7th) and Bleff Dipa (with the 11th) will also have ambitions.
In the tricolor camp, the millionaire mares in euros that are Bahia Quesnot, Billie de Montfort and Délia du Pommereux inherited good positions at the start (respectively 2, 4 and 5). The same trio took the places of honor last year behind Vivid Wise As, the first runner-up being Délia du Pommereux. Astonishing, who has just been talked about again in the Prix de Paris Marathon Race (2nd), will start for his part with the number 6. A slightly off-center position that should rather be to the advantage of a competitor who needs to have his ease at the beginning of the race.
