On North American harness racing tracks it’s all about speed over a mile trip, in Australia it’s a mix of both standing start and mobile features across a range of track sizes, in New Zealand it could be about an extreme two-mile contest or a grass track race featuring non-race winners and in Europe the champion trotter is celebrated as a king of the track.
In Harnesslink Race Replays of the Week we bring you a snapshot into the very best contests from around the harness racing tracks of the world.
AMERICAN REPLAYS
Steve Wolf reported on action from Miami Valley Raceway last week with Brookview Bullet impressing in the $32,000 Open Handicap Pace. It continued a strong run of form for the son of Always A Virgin who equaled a lifetime best in scoring in 1.49.1 from the front of the race. Review the slick action below.
Nicolle Kain reported on Monticello Raceway action once again last week. Of note was their Open Trot feature on Wednesday when Mufasa As proved king of the track with a win over Chip Chip Conway and Nancy Bar. Mufasa As is an 8-year-old gelding trained by Mark Ford.
CANADIAN REPLAY
Nicholas Barnsdale reported on a strong showing from millionaire Covered Bridge at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday. A patient drive from James MacDonald was met with late cover and a chance to show a great turn-of-foot in the closing stretch to power away from race rivals and win in 1.51.3. Saulsbrook Victor held onto second over Points North. Watch the replay below.
NEW ZEALAND REPLAY
Bruce Stewart recently reported on Sheza Gift, and her gift of winning for connections at the Winton Harness Racing Club meeting at Central Southland Raceway. The impressive winner is lightly raced with the victory seemingly effortless with the ear plugs not having to be pulled in the run home. You can catch the 1.57.9 mile below.
EUROPEAN REPLAY
Thomas H. Hicks reported on the European feature, the Prix de Belgique, run on the weekend. The race being notable as one of the great build-up races into the Prix d’Amerique. In the end it was Izoard Vedaquais who prevailed from the front of the race, although, it has to be said, that the driver almost made the mistake of thinking he’d won the race before the race had been won!
