On North American harness racing tracks it’s all about speed over a mile trip, in Australia it’s a mix of both standing start and mobile features across a range of track sizes, in New Zealand it could be about an extreme two-mile contest or a grass track race featuring non-race winners and in Europe the champion trotter is celebrated as a king of the track.
In Harnesslink Race Replays of the Week we bring you a snapshot into the very best contests from around the harness racing tracks of the world.
CANADIAN REPLAY
Nicholas Barnsdale reported on one of the major feature races of the year to come out of Woodbine Mohawk Park recently with the running of the rich Maple Leaf Trot. The celebrated event drew a competitive field but at the end of the night it proved to be all about one horse – Periculum. An explosive final burst of speed proved too much for race rivals with the 1.50.4 time a display of both power and speed. Oh Well and the tough Logan Park filled out the top three to past the post.
Periculum has earned $863,543 lifetime and won 11 times in 43 lifetime appearances.
AMERICAN REPLAY
Steve Wolf reported on a seasoned campaigner last week with Dougs Babe A capturing the $39,000 Fillies & Mares Invitational Pace Friday (Aug. 30) at Yonkers Raceway. The known performer, well handled by Austin Siegelman, made the most of some mid-race pressure to come with a decisive run over the last furlong, beating out both Man Dontforget Me and Coachellabound N. The overall time a smart enough 1.52.1.
It was the fourth win this season for Dougs Babe A.
NEW ZEALAND REPLAY
Notify Batman – we’ve got a situation at Addington Raceway. Bruce Stewart covered an impressive winner from the Douglas stable on Friday when Always Be Batman took the passing lane to claim race leader Treasure Cove over the final 200m, seeing off The Con Artist and Sacetas over the concluding stages to notch the victory. The $14’000 yearling sales acquisition certainly looks capable of retuning a healthy profit for his connections given the nature of the victory.
