The catalogue for NZB Standardbred’s 2024 National Weanling Sale is now live and available to view by clicking here.
The 106-lot boutique weanling session, this year to be complimented by two supplementary yearling lots, is set to take place at the Karaka Sales Centre on Thursday 23 May.
The Sale will feature a selection of the very best potential pinhook, racing and breeding stock on offer, giving buyers the opportunity to source quality weanlings at value prices.
Graduates of the relatively new sale are highlighted by the likes of Aardiebytheseaside (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Alta Meteor(NZ) (Art Major), Forever Dream (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Mantra Blue (NZ) (Sweet Lou), Maestoso (NZ) (Majestic Son), Sinbad (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Turn The Page (NZ) (Vincent) plus recent Harness Million contenders Dave Duley(NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), Kiss (NZ) (Always B Miki) and Ultimate Racy Girl (NZ) (Ultimate Machete) to name a few.
The catalogue is made up of the progeny of 19 stallions, including heavyweights such as American Ideal, Art Major, Bettor’s Delight, Captaintreacherous, Majestic Son and Sweet Lou, to emerging sires like Captain Crunch, What the Hill and Vincent, to first season sire Zenith Stride.
NZB Standardbred Manager Cam Bray is looking forward to the Autumn sale.
“We have a quality catalogue of weanlings put together from some of the best families in Australasia by top-flight sires.”
“This Sale has become a proven source for Group winners.
“Graduates have already claimed 14 stakes wins since its establishment three years ago, where the oldest have just turned five,” commented Bray.
Renowned vendors Alabar Farms have confidently supported the Sale again, with 51 weanlings by a range of sires.
“ Recent results from our sale graduates are heartening that buying professionally raised youngsters as weanlings is an excellent way to get a good horse – the likes of weanling sale graduates Alta Meteor winning back-to-back Group races at Addington, Group One placed Turn The Page winning a Listed mares race at Gloucester Park, (Our) Maestoso taking his record through to 12 wins from 14 starts with dual Group victories and, of course, the 1:48.6 pacer Betterzippit winning last year’s $1 million Nullabor,” commented Alabar Farms’ principal Graeme Henley.
“ Selling weanlings is an important part of what we do.
We put a lot of emphasis on providing our foals with the best of care and attention so they have the foundation to go on to be the best athletes.” equipped Henley.
Two quality supplementary yearlings are represented in the catalogue and will be offered following the weanling session.
Woodlands Stud will present Lot 107, a filly by Downbytheseaside, while Breckon Farm will present Lot 108, a colt by Captaintreacherous.
“He was withdrawn from the Yearling Sale in February last minute, due to a minor setback,” commented Breckon Farm’s Ken Breckon.
“He’s a colt that we thought a lot of and wanted to bring to the market to give him the best opportunity.”
All weanlings purchased at the 2024 National Weanling Sale at Karaka are eligible to be entered for NZB Standardbred’s lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series. The Series consists of principal two-year-old and three-year-old races for colts and geldings, fillies and trotters individually, where NZB Standardbred graduates can contest for their share in a one-million-dollar prize pool. The yearlings in this sale will not be eligible.
