Some 26 years ago, on the 13 November 1998, a four year old horse and harness racing legend raced for the very last time at the Addington track in Christchurch beating a champion horse in Holmes DG in the NZ Free For All. Three days earlier he raced and won the NZ Trotting Cup beating another champion in Iraklis.
This horse would retire as a five year old and would go on to be the best New Zealand colonial bred pacing stallion of all time and leave an indelible mark on the Australasian breeding scene.
Named after an All Black great, arguably through his deeds both on the race track and the breeding barn, he may have become even more famous than his name sake.
Born on the 8thĀ November 1994, and now just turned 30 years old, Christian Cullen will be back this Friday 6thĀ December, around 7.45pm at the Addington racetrack leading out the field in a Group One race named in his honour. For all lovers of racing and champions this will be a special chance to farewell this generational change horse.
