Harness racing review for NZ Metropolitan trotting Club’s meeting held at Addington Raceway on 1st July 2022.
This report focuses on the top four or five placings along with highlighted unlucky runners and better than average efforts from other horses in the race.
Race 1
Favourite Live On Legend (A Rocknroll Dance) with Jonny Cox driving, found the front early on and was way too good for Bondi Lustre who trailed and Eastwood Dream who ran on from three deep on the fence. There were gaps to the rest headed by Hit The Beach and Trouble Supreme.
Race 2
DD’s Super Stuart (Superfast Stuart) and driver Carl Markham caused a decent upset in race 2 after racing three deep on the fence before zipping up the passing lane to nail the trail horse Majestic Rollon right on the line. Harry Potter galloped in front entering the straight when looking a chance and Majestic Whisper and King of love fought out third place, four lengths in arrears with the remainder battling headed by Madeleine Stowe.
Race 3
First starter Lusaka (Sweet Lou) was far too strong in this race winning easily after trailing and beating the leader Rakero Raider by more than three lengths with Major Torque running on well for third. Maddi’s Tiger battled on for fourth. Sucitra looked a major danger at the 75m but unfortunately galloped and fell. She looks to have ability and would be one to keep an eye on in future races.
Race 4
Evangalist (Shadyshark Hanover) and driver Robbie Close went back to back leading all the way and bolting in by 3 lengths from a game Smiffy’s Terror who worked hard during the running but stuck on well and Superstar Legend who ran on up the fence from midfield. Kruizr also ran home well from the back.
Race 5
J R Bromac (Art Major) and driver Blair Orange led from the outset and just held on from a fast finishing Maren Franco with Barnstormer and Classy Dancer also running on and not far away. Donmaro made up a huge slice of ground for fifth and must be hard to beat next time out. Absolute Dynamite had no room just in behind the first group and is one to watch.
Race 6
My Moments Now (Andover Hall) had a good run in the trail and was too good in the straight beating a fast finishing Baxter who came home from four deep the pegs and Prince Teka who faded after leading. Majestic Jag flashed home late out wide for fourth.
Race 7
Mikey Maguire (Mach Three) and Sam Thornley were far too good for this field after whipping around to the lead with a lap to go and coming clear to win by 3 lengths from Heisenberg who did well after a slow beginning. Serious Moonlite ran home well for third with the rest well beaten.
