Harness racing review for NZ Metropolitan trotting Club’s meeting held at Addington Raceway on 9th July 2022.
Highlighting the top four or five placings along with unlucky runners and better than average efforts from other horses in the race.
Race 1
Beach Hopper (Somebeachsomewhere) was given a good trip in the trail in this race for driver Gerard O’Reilly and got up the passing lane for a narrow victory over the early leader Bondi Lustre who fought well for second. Bobby Waterhouse did well from well back in the field as did Lizzie Richter and Mr Lincoln.
Race 2
Dancing Desire (A Rocknroll Dance) and driver Blair Orange led all the way in this race and just lasted to beat a game Millwood Melody who trailed all the way and finished well in the straight. Betterthandiva battled best of the beaten remainder with Crimson Rock making ground for fourth just ahead of Secret Cocktail.
Race 3
Tyron Arohanui (Father Patrick) with driver John Dunn had a cosy sit three deep on the fence and easily won this race after most of the field made mistakes in the running. There were gaps back to Ginas Majesty who ran home well for second and Reindeer Trouble who battled on back in third. MC Squared looked like running second on the turn but galloped and did well to get going again into fourth.
Race 4
Ajira (Bettor’s Delight) and Carter Dalgety won a competitive race here after working to lead early and then trailing the favourite Live On Legend for the rest of the way. Ajira was too strong in the run home up the inner winning by a head with Live On Legend fighting well for second. Heaven On High was massive in defeat breaking on the turn before rcovering and flashing home for an unlucky third. Jimmy James Maguire also ran home well for fourth with the rest well beaten.
Race 5
Emma’s Boy (Terror To Love) repeated his good run from last week when he sprung out of the running line on the turn and showed a good turn of foot for driver Tim Williams to get a narrow victory. Loyalist and Ben Hope made a similar run from midfield on the turn but came up a head short and had to settle for second. Happy Place finished on for third once he had room but was four lengths back and the rest of the field battled headed by Simply delicious.
Race 6
Maui (Peak) and driver Lawrence McCormick trailed here and got up the passing lane for a narrow victory over race leader Prince Teka who fought well for second. Majestic Jag ran home well for third when clearing traffic with race favourite My Moments Now running fourth.
Race 7
This race was run in similar fashion to the previous with Smiffy’s Terror (Terror To Love) and John Dunn trailing and narrowly out finishing the race leader Heisenberg, with a gap to Soundsofcash running third.
Race 8
Royal Pride (Royal Aspirations) was way too strong in this race for driver Sam Thornley. That pair were back on the outer but sprinted hard with a lap to go and just kept on trucking to win well by 4 lengths. Madeline Stowe battled on well for second from a cosy fence run and Navara ran home well for third, just ahead of Make My Sundon who ran home nicely from well back in the pack at the 400m.
Race 9
This race had a very close finish with some fast finishes and several runners with not a lot of room in the straight. Eventual winner Styx sweetie (Bettor’s Delight) and driver Jimmy Curtin had a good sit on the outer and launched at the 400m before fighting on best for a narrow win ahead of The Coalman who put in a big finish wide from the 700m. His run was a good one. Megarock ran on up the inner for third ahead of Yankee Jay who did well after a slow beginning. Swagger Man also did well from the back out wide and he looks close to a win. Hidden Desire was big and close up after sitting parked. Petrify, Apatchofgold and Tiger Taylor all didn’t get much room in the straight.
STYX SWEETIE REPLAY
Race 10
Tasman Tempest (Bettor’s Delight) got a deserved win in this race after an unlucky run last week. He sat midfield before making a three wide run at the 400m and did enough to beat a fast finishing Paytons Rock who flashed home wide and late for second. Major GNP finished on for third up the inner and Obsession faded to fourth after working midrace.
