All You Need Is Me all class in Oaks

The impeccably bred harness racing filly All You Need Is Me (Captaintreacherous) delivered a high end performance in tonight’s $110,000 Group One 2023 Pascoe’s The Jewellers Northern Oaks at Alexandra Park.

Sent out as $1.20 favourite after her impressive win last week in the Ladyship Stakes, driver Carter Dalgety left nothing to chance and took the giant striding filly straight to the front from barrier two and there she stayed, beating a late finishing Flying Ellie and Duchess Megxit who charged home late for third.

“She got off the gate really good. She was probably a little bit sparked up from last week because I got her off pretty hard. She crossed over easy but as soon as she got to the front she relaxed. I saw with a lap to go that the good ones were right out the back. I thought if I could run a pretty solid 1000 metres and go hard in the third quarter, she’d be pretty hard to stop. That’s how it worked, and it became too hard mathematically for the ones out the back,” Dalgety said.

The winning margin was three quarters of a length and was Dalgety’s 100th as a driver.

“It was outstanding and my heart is still jumping out of my chest. He (Carter) was on ninety nine wins, and we know that when these records are coming up they can sit there for weeks and weeks. So for it to happen tonight on this filly is just outstanding,” co-trainer Chrissie Dalgety said.

ALL YOU NEED IS ME REPLAY

It was Carter’s second Group One win, he won the Ascot Park Hotel Invercargill Cup last December, driving Krug.

Trained by Cran and Chrissie Dalgety at West Melton All You Need Is Me’s dam Adore Me won the 2013 edition of the Northern Oaks while the fillies third dam Scuse Me won the same race in 1997.  Scuse Me was part owned by Cran’s father Jim who also owned Happy Hazel, the 1989 winner. So the family has a great record in this Auckland classic.

Owned by Charles Joseph Limited, All You Need Is Me’s time was 3-19.0. The race record of 3-16.4 is held by 2019 winner Best Western.
