“She went enormous at her last start and is nearly back to her best. We’ve drawn on the second row behind the least fancied runner in the field so we’ve been thrown a real curve ball. If she was on the front line she would have been hard to beat,” harness racing co-trainer Cran Dalgety said about the chances of All You Need Is Me (Captaintreacherous) in tomorrow night’s Tennant Engineering New Zealand Pacing Oaks.
Cran and his wife and training partner Chrissie Dalgety have three other runners at the premier meeting at Addington and leading the night off in the Ian Dobson Memorial – Three Year Old Classic is three year old gelding Magician (Captaintreacherous). He powered off the gate on Show Day but ran out of gas at the end of his race. He gets a nice draw to use at two.
“It’s a nice marble but we have thrown him in with the sharks. If he runs in the top three we’ll take it, but it’s a meeting with a few dollars up. He can either lay in the sawdust at home in the box or have a go to get some good prize money. It’s a rough throw at the stumps, more than him being a leading contender. He’s bounced out of Cup week really good while a lot of his owners were on the canvas. It’s definitely hardened him up,” Dalgety said.
The Dalgetys have two runners in the $100,000 Group One Renwick Farms The Ace Of Diamonds; Forever Dream (Downbytheseaside) and Joyride (Always B Miki.
Forever Dream gets the best draw at four. At her last start she led off the gate before handing up to Stella Rouge. She battled on well for a good fourth just two lengths from the winner, Captains Mistress.
“She’s not a star by any means. She’s come from humble beginnings. Just getting a wee piece of it (stakes) against the better ones was good. A very honest filly but a few of the others are statistically a bit advanced on her.”
Stablemate Joyride draws wider at seven but is in a rich vein of form.
“She’s a pretty good filly that’s got better and better every time. Her last start was only a C1 but the way she did it I think she’ll be a force to be reckoned with. She’s a pretty good filly with a lot of stamina.”
