The Steve and Amanda Telfer trained Alta Meteor (Art Major) is a horse on the rise and in winning the $60,000 Coca-Cola Superstars Championship at Addington last night he completed a harness racing Group double.
Driver Jonny Cox pressed forward early from barrier six and when he saw Beach Ball progressing around he continued his run to take the lead off The Falcon, hoping that Beach Ball would push on to the top. Thatās the way it played out and Beach Ball took Alta Meteor to the passing lane. Ohoka Connor, whoād sat parked for the last part of the race took the lead shortly after turning in but Alta Meteor came with the last run to beat his stablemate by a length with Franco Merek coming home late for third.
The win topped off a great week for Cox, Stonewall Stud, the Telfers and Alta Meteor. Last Saturday he won the G3 Autumn FFA.
āLast week gave the horse and driver a bit of confidence. I thought weād try something different tonight. There was a lot of talk about Beach Ball going forward and going harder and I thought if we followed the right horse heād take us a long way. Connor was sitting up doing all the work. We were getting that cushy run and it probably made all the difference in the end,ā Cox told Trackside viewers.
The win was the four year oldās tenth and third this season.
