Actually, it is not that amazing that Amazing Dream N (Bettor’s Delight) is undefeated so far in 2023 after three starts, all of them in the tough Blue Chip Matchmaker Pacing Series at Yonkers Raceway.
On Friday evening (April 7), Amazing Dream N goes for her fourth straight score as the seven-year-old mare headlines the 8th race $40,000 division. It is one of three divisions of the fourth round of the series for mares.
And Amazing Dream N, who is trained by Hall of Famer Linda Toscano, draws the rail to boot for regular driver Yannick Gingras. She’s the 8/5 favorite and she is going against two return winners in the field, Incaseyoudidntknow (post 2) and Dougs Babe A (post 5), who are the co-second choices in the race.
Amazing Dream N started off the season in the Matchmaker and showed right off the bat she was ready to race, wiring the field in 1:52.3. Then Gingras gave her perfect two-hole trips the last two weeks and she won with ease, last week she won in 1:51.4.
Gordon Banks of the Enviro Stables is the co-owner of Amazing Dream N with Richard Gutnick, Thomas Pontone and Joseph Lozito, Jr.
Did Banks think it was amazing that his New Zealand imported mare is undefeated in the series?
“I thought she had a chance to dominate,” Banks said. “She has faced the world’s best, and she seems to be acclimating to North American sprint racing.
“Linda (Toscano) has done a great job with her,” Banks added. “At Yonkers, though, the luck of the draw generally controls what goes on.”
And how about those two second choices in the race?
Incaseyoudidntknow (Always B Miki) has been racing well in the series and in general whenever she races for trainer Les Givens. The five-year-old mare is coming off a super effort last week for driver Andy McCarthy, coming first-over and grinding out a 1:52.3 triumph, her third win this year.
Very impressive last week was Dougs Babe A (Western Terror), who was purchased and shipped from Australia to the USA to compete in the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series. Her first two starts in the series, and the USA, were ok, but last week’s effort was top notch for trainer Nifty Norman.
McCarthy had to take Dougs Babe A first-over before the three-quarters against pacesetter Majorca N (who is back in the same race Friday, post 4), grinding it out down the stretch, pulling away at the wire to win in 1:53, last quarter in :27.1.
Other contenders in the field include Matchmaker divisional winners Lucky Artist A (post 6) and Lydeo (post 7).
“Doug’s Babe has looked good here for Nifty (Norman),” Banked added. “She was strong late in all her races. You know we almost bought her, ourselves, down under. She is one of five or six real winning chances in our race.”
The first division of the fourth round of the Blue Chip Matchmaker is the 3rd race and the 2-1 favorite is Gotthegreenlight (post 1). The second division is the 6th race and the even money favorite is Drama Act (post 1).
