Another Master Lavros steps out on track

If you look into the sales catalogue or those that find fame out on the track in the features races you’re likely to find that many of the champions of today come from great families of the past. Here we touch on that habit of success- how the great families continue to leave the very best.

Those entrants that will no doubt catch the eye of many this week include –

Lyca Bat Out Of Hill (What The Hill – Lavra Noblesse) The Leonne Jones trained runner takes its place in heat 1 of the day at Rangiora. It’s a breed that keeps on giving the New Zealand harness racing scene good horses and feature victories.

Double Quick (Captaintreacherous – Dreamy Delight) Stepping out in the third heat of the day after three previous appearances towards the end of last year, Double Quick, trained by Robert & Jenna Dunn,will look to emulate the success of her full sister and Group race placed Double Delight (8 wins) . Further back in the bloodlines you’ll find the likes of Hummer, a 1.50 pacer and 8-time winner on NZ soil, and Give The Wink (Bettor’s Delight) who won 6 from just the 20 appearances.

Ohoka Cobra (Bettor’s Delight – Idolise) Another royally bred type to step out for a stroll around Rangiora. Ohoka Cobra is a close relation to a number of racetrack performers – notably Ohoka Connor (Sunshine Beach) the winner of the Gr2 Southern Supremacy of 2023, and Braeview Kelly, who was most impressive, particularly when racing in Australia, taking out the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Mile at Menangle alongside an additional three Gr3 victories.

Granddam Imprint has seldom missed with her progeny including Opulent (Christian Cullen) Idealindiamonds (American Ideal) Imola (Jereme’s Jet) and the flying, USA champion mare in Dibaba (Shadow Play) If there’s a standout of the day when it comes to the blood running through the veins then this animal could well carry that tag.

DIBABA MARES CHAMPIONSHIP REPLAY

Sabala (Bettor’s Delight – Solandra) There’s a change in scenery to take in this prospect with Ashburton the stage for the Darren Keast trained runner to strut her stuff. This family is well known with Samskara (8 wins) and Samhara (6 wins) being just two of the notable performers out of Solandra. Solandra is a dam that the Renwick breeding establishment have repeatedly asked Bettor’s Delight to have a positive influence on – and he’s generally delivered. Sabala will be the 9^th foal out of the mare by the super sire.

There’s plenty of quality going around tomorrow so it’s a case of catching up on the results and seeing the potential that could well be winning races at very short notice.
