Smart pacer Arabian Blue gave his harness racing rivals a pacing lesson when winning on debut last night at Addington Raceway.
The Auckland Reactor gelding was too big too strong for the opposition, after being driven a treat by driver Tim Williams in the 1980m mobile event. Williams had Arabian Blue out and rolling early and after some early fireworks vying for the lead, managed to position himself handy on the markers until the hometurn where he unleashed a strong burst to win going away with plenty of petrol left in the tank.
Some impressive trial performances in the Canterbury area over the past few months made the juicy opening price of $4.00 attractive to punters, with Arabian Blue coming in for plenty of betting support on fixed odds. The gelding firmed in from an opening price of $4.00 to around $2.20 at tote close.
Arabian Blue is trained by Steve Dolan and ran the 1980m in a quick 1-58.8 Mile Rate with a sizzling last half of 55.6 seconds. Dolan also won a race earlier in the night with Amore Vita (Art Major) who crushed her opposition by 7 lengths running her last 800m 55.3 seconds for driver John Dunn.
The Addington surface was indeed running like lightning with Sires Stakes favourite Franco Indie (Always B Miki) unleashing a scintillating 54.3 half to win fresh up in the hands of driver Mark Purdon. Franco Indie is the current favourite for the $170,000 NZ Sires Stakes final to be run at Addington in November.
